Sorry it's taken me a while to get to this, but I'm trying to read the series in order. This was another very enjoyable book in an extremely good series, which takes me back to Yorkshire, the part of the UK where I was born.
Thank you again shemchin for sending this my way.

A Yorkshire Day Book originally from Texas! Well, it's a small small BC-world. I haven't even heard of DI Priest, hopefully I can read this without having read all the previous books about him. Looking forward to reading this soon.

My dementia has advanced to the point that I'll have to make more than mental notes of the books I've promised to someone. I tagged keeta1 with this book, so Limestone Cowboy will see New Zealand when I'm done with him. Needless to say he will be doing more miles than I ever...
I use this opportunity to also wish merry X-mas to the previous readers!!

Journal Entry 8 by wingkirjakkowing at Helsinki, Uusimaa / Nyland Finland on Sunday, February 26, 2012
Finally I got around reading this, I've been SO behind all my wishlist tags. My New Year's resolution was not to tag anyone with a TBR book and I still have four to read and send before the queue from last year is being dealt with - and it's almost March!
To the book at hand: Although it had one of the stupidest and misleading titles I did like it, but Mr.Pawson, if you ever browse these pages - try a bit harder with the name, I would never have picked the book if it had been up to me.
I've read more cozy mysteries lately, so this was almost over my comfort line with organized dogfighting and babies fed with crushed glass. Also the role of a godfather was a bit extraordinary, although he got himself off the hook. Can't say that I've ever heard of one used for that purpose even if their original role of being someone "looking after the child's Christian education" is hardly ever fulfilled nowadays.
The story however carried well and I read the book in a day - and did guess who was behind the food poisonings.
The writer is obviously proud of Glorious Yorkshire - with a tongue on cheek:
"As the climate became more stable mankind evolved, probably in Africa, and rapidly spread all around the planet. One group, handsomer and more resourceful than the rest, arrived at a place that was as fair as anywhere else they've seen on their travels. The water was sweet and climate favourable.
'This will do' the leader declared.
'What shall we call it?' someone asked.
'Yorkshire' he replied, and so it was."
I might read another DI Charlie Priest book if I came across one. Hopefully keeta1 will enjoy it, too.

Thank you Kirjakko for sending the book - it is pretty well travelled, isn't it?
I too have never read a Charlie Priest book (and really wish I could do it in a day, gosh!), so am looking forward to it. No promises when that will happen though, as I am also trying to read all the other books sent to me by Bookcrossers, that have been languishing on my shelf for a while. Too many books, too little time :(

The first Charlie Priest book I've read and I really enjoyed it! A fairly light and quick read with a couple of laugh out loud bits, despite the dogfighting and crushed glass episodes and a nice little twist at the end!

Thank you for this book, sent as part of a very generous birthday package! I look forward to reading this well-traveled mystery.

Journal Entry 13 by wingeponine38wing at Winchester, Massachusetts USA on Thursday, September 22, 2016
I really enjoyed this and read it almost in one sitting. It's the 9th in the series and I usually read in order. I do have the first book (The Picasso Scam) which I've already made two attempts to get through. One more try before giving up. :-) So it was a very pleasant surprise to find this one so engrossing. Maybe it took the author a while to hit his stride? We'll see.

It's true, as earlier readers have said, that the dogfighting and crushed glass were rather disturbing, but the writing and the rest of the story were so good that they weren't a deterrent to this almost-exclusively-cozy-mystery reader. Pawson does include enough subtle humor to offset the more unpleasant bits.

Thanks, everyone, for sharing!
