The Death of Bunny Munro

The Death of Bunny Munro recounts the last journey of a salesman in search of a soul. Following the suicide of his wife, Bunny, a door-to-door salesman and lothario, takes his son on a trip along the south coast of England. He is about to discover that his days are numbered. With a daring hellride of a plot The Death of Bunny Munro is also a modern morality tale of sorts, a stylish, furious, funny, truthful and tender account of one man’s descent and judgement. The novel is full of the linguistic verve that has made Cave one of the world's most respected lyricists. It is his first novel since the publication of his critically acclaimed debut And the Ass Saw the Angel twenty years ago.

This one was quite depraved and not for the faint hearted. Having said that is was quite simply written, being written from the point of view of fairly simple minded characters, and so quite easy to read. Also I loved the contrast between the Bunny and Bunny Jr sections.

Got this today! There are a couple books before I start this one so it may be a bit. This book seems to be around a lot this week. I just got a little advertisement from another bookcrosser with Bunny being one of the books on the advertisement and today I opened an e-mail from pastemagazine.com hosting a contest to win one of three copies! Well, on another note, I know what to expect from Nick Cave. I'm a fan! Hope this is a good one! thanks for sending, shimmy and for hosting, canongate!

Basically what I expected from Nick Cave. He can definitely write.. there are little bits and pieces that I really liked. But I don't think the writing needs to be so out there all the time. Some writers, I just want to say: You don't have to be so extreme for me to read your book. But like I said, I expected this from Nick Cave. I liked it, but it did seem a bit repetitive at times. I agree with one of the snippet review's: it's kind of like a modern day Kafka tale and also a bit like Cormac McCarthy.. especially if the only McCarthy you've read has been 'The Road'. It helps to listen to his music while reading! :D
