From the back:
"...a profoundly moving story that sheds light on the life of the last of the Mongolian nomads. Davaa, a young filmmaker, returns to her native country and to the region where she grew up to show us life among the nomadic people.
Through the touching story of Nansaa and her little dog Zochor, she depicts the freedom of life on the steppes, as well as the deep spirituality of the people and the significance of the Buddhist faith. Delicate and poignant, Davaa's story also highlights the increasing tensions as these rich traditions come into conflict with the demands of modern urban life."

A lovely, quick read and beautifully written and photographed too. It is easy to become attached to the characters, especially the children. A heartwarming story.

Sent to mathgirl40, who won it in the draw of leftover East Asian VBB books. It even squeaked in at the lettermail rate (yeah!), so hopefully it won't take too long.
Received the book today. Thanks, jumpingin! Glad to hear it qualified for Lettermail, as Canada Post rates are crazy. Looking forward to reading this.
This was a quick-to-read and interesting story. The writing and story were somewhat simplistic, but the descriptions of nomadic life in Mongolia and the beautiful photos made this a worthwhile read.
I've reserved this for a bookbox that I'll be sending around Canada later in the month.
