I have heard about John Berendt and his previous book, but so far had not had the chance to pick up the book(s). I found this book really cheap and took it with me to a holiday. I have to say that I absolutely loved this book. Couldn't read it fast enough and was really sad to read the last page.

It's so fascinating. Venice is a perfect background and all the people Brendt meets along his stay there are interesting, especially the rat man of Treviso. Now I just to find his first book and see if it's just as good as this was.

I read Berend't "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" years ago, and liked it very much (see my journal entry and many others here). I'm really looking forward to reading this book, especially because aava recommended it - she usually has very good taste in books. :)

I just couldn't get into this book. I don't know why, maybe it's because I've never been to Venice and, although it'd be nice to go there someday, I'm not planning to do it in near future. So even though Berendt writes well, I didn't find the places or characters interesting enough. Maybe it just wasn't the right time for this book. The cover is beautiful, though.

I think I have released this book somewhere, but forgotten to make release notes. The book is not in my possession anymore, so let's hope someone makes a journal entry reporting where it is now.
