I was out buying books at the Used Book Superstore in Burlington, for release at tonight's Shakespeare in the Park meetup, and I could not resist buying just one book for myself. This has been on my Amazon wish list for a long time.
I enjoyed this book very much. There was a lot more to it than I suspected judging from the picture on the cover, which made it seem like something light and easy. It was in fact complex and literary, an excellent book, a hybrid of novel and memoir.

I most enjoyed about this book the author's description of Russia and its history. It was not very accurate, but also told with considerable affection, but without too much sentimentalizing. I found less enjoyable the author's musings on France and French culture. To me, these seemed to ponder to tastes of a French audience.
Picked up at May Bookcrossing MeetUp
This was worth sticking with, it took some time getting going but I really fell into the language and the weaving of stories.
