One of the best 1001 books I have read in ages. A real sensory (includine taste) delight. Not too political for a vietnamese novel, given the long term political conflicts about and over Vietnam. A story also of betrayal, and the struggles of a young female in Vietnam.

I am always interested in stories about other countries/other people's lives. If a book like this is on the 1001-list, then it is even more reason to read it.
