Picked up at a cafe in Brentford while I was moored there for a couple of weeks on my Narrowboat. Nice cafe, friendly staff and a relaxing atmosphere. I enjoyed my herbal tea and took full advantage of the free wifi to check my emails and do my onliney bits.

This book didn't grab me right from the start but it certainly grew on me (like a cancer?) and I came to enjoy it thoroughly. The characters and their foibles seemed really well drawn if the situations in which they found themselves were sometimes over the top and farsicle. I think Haddon really captures the human condition (I'm basing this judgement on this and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime only).
Grand topics were dealt with; love, mortality, mental health, families and relationships all very tenderly and sometimes cleverly. I enjoyed spending time with these characters and enjoyed reading this book.
