Journal Entry 1 by Carole888 from Perth, Western Australia Australia on Thursday, August 06, 2009
This was given to me recently and it quite different to the No 1 Detective series that the author is famous for. I read it a while ago..... This copy has come from Houston and spent some time in Alice Springs so it's done a bit of travelling already. This is the first of the Philosophy Club series ..... This one is my favourite out of the lot. I especially love the philosophy parts ..... I've been told that the audio book is quite good too. I also love the audio version of the von Ingelfeld series by the same author, but it has to be read by Hugh Laurie for the voices he does for each character is absolutely amazing .... and most entertaining!! (I especially like the second one ... The Finer Points of Sausage Dogs the best.) Reading it does not give you the same experience.

Journal Entry 3 by Elddau1 from Yass, New South Wales Australia on Thursday, September 24, 2009
(Arrived last Friday) My heartfelt thanks to the lovely and very generous Carole888. She has sent me two RABCKs that have brought warm smiles to my face. And her gift that keeps on giving has also brightened the days for the other resident bookcrosser here, countdebeans, at his father's bedside. I think Carole888 is a BookCrosser to define the best of all things BookCrossing and the wonderful serendipity of it all. :-))

Journal Entry 4 by Elddau1 from Yass, New South Wales Australia on Monday, February 08, 2010
I was keen to read another of Alexander McCall Smith’s books. I love The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency series, especially for its cultural flavour. I was hoping that this series would be similar but in a Scottish way. It wasn’t particularly Scottish except for the setting - I guess Edinburgh is more a part of the global village. Alexander McCall Smith is a good writer and this read easily. I didn’t warm to the main character Isabel Dalhousie much though and I kept wondering why she was investigating other people’s business. She’s not officially a detective so I guess this is more in the style of Agatha Christie and maiden aunts who solve crimes for a hobby.

I enjoyed this book more than "The Number One Detective Agency" by the same author. It was an easy, light read. Nothing much happens. If a book could be compared to comfortable, fluffy slippers, this is it. RABCK to sbutler25 in Kincumber, NSW. Enjoy and please make an entry to let me know it arrived okay.

Journal Entry 8 by sbutler25 at Kincumber, New South Wales Australia on Thursday, July 22, 2010
Finished! I didn't like this authors writing style, was a bit too "mature" for me. I enjoyed the storyline though, although I felt the main character stuck her nose in where it wasn't wanted. Now passing on for someone else to enjoy....
