Journal Entry 1 by livrecache from Hobart, Tasmania Australia on Wednesday, August 05, 2009
Seen it everywhere: have to read it . . . And now I have. It's a curious mixture of saccharine and almost stereotypical characterisation and part of the plot is really cliched, maybe intentionally so, but the recount of what privations Guernsey suffered during its occupation lift it far above chick-lit which I'd feared it was developing into. And the authors have presented us with an enduring war-time heroine in a very interesting way. Normally, I'd have said I don't care for books written as a series of letters, but this one works, for me at least.
