I've always wanted to read this. So much so that I haven't allowed myself to see the movie yet. I always prefer to read the book before I see the movie! Actually started reading this several times. Purchased from Goodwill. Registering so it can be on my TBR list for my Reduce Mount TBR Challenge in 2010.

February 22, 2014: Well, 2010 has come and gone, as well as a couple of subsequent years. So ... Here we are in 2014, and I'm hoping to read it soon. Let's see what happens!

March 24, 2014: I started reading this book when I was expecting Libretto #1. It had just been turned into a movie at that time. However, I put it down when he was born and that was the end of that! This is not the same copy. That one was a library book. I picked this book up at the local Goodwill Thrift Store. So, what does that mean? It's been "To Be Read" for 23 years, now? LOL! Dug out of Mount TBR and added to the short list. I've been putting off seeing the movie until I've read the book.

March 22, 2015: Finally getting to read this! Starting this book at the pool today. Maybe not quite 'Beach Reading,' but, hey, that's where I get to read.

Arrived today and I will take into work tomorrow.

I loved this novel and here's my review from 2013 when I read it:

Probably one of the best novels (yes, novels - it is a fictionalization of the account but there is very little that is not well researched) on the Holocaust. However, this is the story of the survival of the SchindlerJuden - those Jews lucky enough to get on the list. The movie by Steven Spielberg is a fine film that accurately conveys the essence - it is that rare film that is as good as the book. BUt that being said, the book has a depth that the movie cannot get - you learn the backstory, see the fine nuances, the extraordinary twists that save one person but doom another. It is important that we never forget the horror that was perpetrated upon a people just due to their faith. The central theme is the simple line inscribed upon the ring given to Oskar Schindler at the end of WWII: "He who saves a single life saves the world entire."

Here's hoping someone else will enjoy this story.

Thank you so much for sending this my way.
I've been wanting to read this ever since I saw the movie ... over 20 years ago!
Must resist the urge to dive right in ... as I'm already switching back and forth between several books, but ... I plan to get to this before 2016 is over.
