I enjoyed this - it was well-written, an interesting concept, and had a twisty ending. And yet ... I couldn't help but feel that the author was showing off a teensy bit to make the novel stretch further. It almost felt like he was saying "Hey, look at all the research I've done into brain surgery/musical terminology/the game of squash, and look at how many pages worth of novel I can make from my research." Still, a good read.
