Twenties Girl

A cute fairytale by the queen of chicklit.
A wonderful, lovely, and light book! It's not as funny as Sophie Kinsella's previous stand-alones, but a very sweet story told very well. I found it hard to put the book down and was through in almost a day.
- One of the best books I've read this year!
This book is on reserve for an international bookring.
Rules: *) When you receive the book, please try to read it as quickly as you can.
*) Keeping the book for one month is the absolute maximum, as it has only been on the market for a few days (by the time of writing this) and the people behind you in the ring are also eager to read it.
*) Please treat the book nicely! No dog-ears, etc.
*) As soon as you receive the book, PM the person after you for their address.
*) When you're done reading send the book on to the next in line.
*) Most importantly: enjoy!

I hope everyone enjoys this novel as much as I did!
Arrived today. I'll start reading it as soon as I finish my current read. Thanks for hosting this ring solskinn.
Really enjoyable read. It's not as fun as the Shopaholic series, but I still laughed out loud during parts of it - especially when reading about her first date with Ed.
Thanks for sharing solskinn, I'll post the book to the next reader today.

The book arrived today. Thank you!
Oops, I just wanted to make a release note and I see I haven't posted my opinion yet.
I liked the book very much, although I still think the Shopaholic series are Sophie's best books. But this one also was funny and good entertainment. Sadie can really be annoying, but also very cute :)

On its way to Plum-crazy.
The book arrived safely today - thank you!! I'm looking forward to it.
When Lara goes to the funeral of an unknown relative she never expects to "inherit" her Great-Aunt Sadie's ghost....& she isn't going away until Lara can track down a missing necklace.
Lara's life follows the tried & tested formula of all Kinsella's heroines but Sadie's ghost gives this tale a kooky twist & it manages to avoid being over-the-top silly, remaining good fun throughout.
*Warning* - don't start it if you've anything pressing to do as you won't be able to put it down :o)

& the 2009 KEEP THEM MOVING CHALLENGE (#30)
Received today. Thanks very much.
I was a bit disappointed with Sophie Kinsella's last book, but she's right back on form with this one. I really enjoyed it.
Posted to AgnesXNitt today.
Received in the post yesterday along with another bookring book ('Bending The Willow: Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes' from GoryDetails). Obviously my postman/woman didn't want to carry these parcels back to the depot so had tucked both books in the shelter of my backdoor stoop. Despite the fact it had been hammering down with rain most of the day, both books were fine and dry.
Thanks for hosting this ring Solskinn, the timing is perfect! BBC Four (UK cable channel) are running a season on 'Glamour's Golden Age' - the 1920's and 1930's - so I am already steeped in Flappers, Prohibition, Bright Young Things, Art Deco, Short Skirts, Silk Stockings, Themed Parties and all night escapades! Perfect mood to receive and read this book!
An enjoyable read for a reader who tries to steer clear of Chick Lit! Raced through this one on a dank Saturday afternoon and evening, when I really should have been preparing for my Sunday School class today! Ah well - time well spent! As I am learning to Lindyhop - the dance that became the Jitterbug - and have an interest in the 1920s and 30's, this book did appeal to me in its spirit. Though Sadie isn't the benign ghost to ever appear in my reading experience, she did strongly remind me of the Captain in 'The Ghost and Mrs Muir' (the original 1947 film with Gene Tierney and Rex Harrison) - extolling Lara on to stop whittling and taking life so seriously and encouraging/bullying! her to live a little - much like the Flappers and Bright Young Things of the early inter-war years. Just the right amount of sentimentality and fun in the plot, and the hero just handsome enough without being to good to be true with some character flaws to make this a very enjoyable book for me to read. And another excuse to watch 'The Ghost and Mrs Muir' again!!
Thanks so much for hosting this one Solskinn. Mindful of the fact there are plenty more readers eagerly awaiting this book, I will PM Jonniboi to get this one moving as soon as I can :)
Being posted off to Jonniboi today from Brampton Village Post office to catch the 5pm post (hopefully)...
just received this today, WHOA! there's a lot of people on this bookring list! I'll PM the next person in line now, I have a few bookrings/rays ahead of this one, but I hope I can finish this book around christmas time so that I can send it off after the christmas rush!
I've had this book for 1 whole month and still haven't got around to reading this! Can I please ask you to move me further down the list (maybe the bottom if you like) so that it will come back to me and I will then eventually have a chance to reading this? I shall send it off in the new year!

I posted this to the next bookcrosser on the list in Costa Rica! I am very jealous! Wishing I was in Costa Rica! Hope you enjoy the book :)
Found it in the mail yesterday. I started reading it right away. It is the perfect cure to a stressful day, I'm already thinking of how I'm going to miss it when I'm done reading it, and I'm only on page 43. Thanks for sharing!
I took this with me to my trip to St. Louis, Missouri, I finished it there. I tried to get a hold of the next reader while I was there, but couldn't, so it traveled back to Costa Rica with me, who would have thought it would fly to Costa Rica twice?
It is a lovely story, I enjoy Sophie Kinsella's books very much.
I sent a PM to lovie313 on the 14th, and a second PM today, lets see if I get a reply this time. I will wait a week, and if I don't get her address, I'll PM tempestsans next.
Thank you!

off in the post this morning to Bkind2books. was able to finish reading it yesterday and get a request to her for her address...and she was quick to respond so this one is moving again already.
enjoyable read as kinsella always is. must say this one had a bit more depth to it than some of her others have had for me. even though it's got lots of cute fluffy stuff and, of course, a ghost, Lara and Sophie both at times felt quite real in their emotions.
thanks for sharing!
Arrived safely today - will put at the top of my reading stack. Thank you for organizing this, solskinn!

Quite enjoyable! I liked this author's Shopaholic series; however, they have become tiresome as it feels like Becky never learns her lesson. This heroine is different. Lara is dragged to the funeral of her Great-Aunt Sadie. Sadie was 105 when she died and had had little contact with any of her family. Her ghost appears to Lara (and only Lara) and demands that she get her necklace so that she can rest. Thus begins an utterly charming story. It is believable and the heroine relies on her own wits to uncover a mystery surrounding Sadie and another family member. I loved the theme of the ageless soul within all of us. The essential 'me' feels basically the same at 50-something that I did at 20-something.
A passage I liked:
"It's as if I can see them, the way they were. I can see their young, vibrant selves, rising up out of their bodies, shaking off the oldness, starting to dance with each other to the music. They're all dancing the Charleston, kicking up their heels skittishly, their hair dark and strong, their limbs lithe again, and they're laughing, clutching each other's hands, throwing back their heads, revelling in it..."
Will get this out to the next person as soon as I get their address. Thanks for organizing this, Solskinn!

This was a light, fun read -- pretty much par for the course, as I've enjoyed most of Kinsella's books. The storyline was a bit different, with its 'paranormal theme', which made it more compelling than most chic-lit stories. All the characters were interesting and I loved the way everything came together in the end. Thumbs up! :)
I've already got the addy for the next in line. Will put this in the mail after the long holiday weekend.

At first I wasn't sure how good this would be as I started out. I've enjoyed all of Sophie Kinsella's books so far (except the one I haven't read yet, Remember Me or something like that). I don't read as much chick lit as I used to, I find as I get older that I just don't relate to the heroines enough! But I ended up becoming totally engrossed in this and not wanting to put it down. As someone else mentioned, Becky Bloomwood has become tiresome as she never seems to learn her lesson. But Lara did seem to mature over the course of the story and became a better person for having known Sadie.
I already have the next person's address, so I'm mailing this off today.

I quite enjoyed this book. It is light and easy to read. It was a little predictable but that is part of the fun of one of her books. I had a very hard time putting this book down. Surprised I didn't read it all in one go. (Of course, when you are reading before bed, it is a good thing I didn't read it in one night!) I'm looking forward to her next book (whenever that is), as there hasn't been one that I don't like.
