Journal Entry 1 by Jannike from -- wild release somewhere in Oslo, Oslo fylke Norway on Wednesday, July 15, 2009
"Twenty-three-year old Zhuang (or Z as she calls herself - Westerners cannot pronounce her name) arrives in London to spend a year learning English. Struggling to find her way in the city, and through the puzzles of tense, verb and adverb; she falls for an older Englishman and begins to realise that the landscape of love is an even tricker terrain..." I really enjoyed this book and will recommend it. It is funny and charming and illustrates some of the cultural differences between the east and the west. It is also a lovestory. Her English is very (charmingly) clumsy in the beginning, but improves as you read the book. One thing that struck me as very funny was when she read her English boyfriends private papers and could not understand why that should not be OK. I will bring the book with me to a BC-meeting in Oslo today.
