A good read
Picked up at tonight's meetup. I'm always a sucker for good science fiction.
Great to meet you and Butterflybooks, Billll42!

A good read with an absorbing storyline (though it did take a while to get going) and some really interesting ideas.
Unfortunately it was kind of spoilt for me by the several glaring errors in the basic science. The first rule of science fiction writing is that you have to get the science right - after all, the average reader of science fiction is likely to have a interest in science, so they're going to spot your mistakes. The most egregious error (so bad I had to re-read it to make sure I wasn't just missing something) was having characters standing on the *outside* of a rotating spaceship being held down by the "centrifugal" force!!!
The numerous typos (and a few oddities in Earth's geography) didn't add to the overall impression, either. A pity the publishers didn't think to have a decent editor look over it before publication, because it could have been a really good book with just a few corrections.
