Lytteltonwitch was clearing out her bookshelves, but didn't have time to register all her unwanted books, so gave me a few bags full to bookcross.

Journal Entry 2 by futurecat from Christchurch, Canterbury New Zealand on Thursday, November 12, 2009
In Tampa, Florida, at the end of the 19th Century, the lives of a wigmaker, a young widow, and a Cuban refugee intertwine as the wigmaker develops an obsession with creating the ultimate hairpiece (of a type called a transformation) for the widow's blond hair, with increasingly disturbing results.
Chidgey skilfully weaves the strands of the tale together, somehow building empathy for the wigmaker while at the same time gradually revealing the depths of his psychopathy, so that you can't help feeling sorry for a man you should detest. But then none of the characters in this book are black and white - their shades of grey are what make the story so interesting.
