K.C. recommended the entire Sword of Truth series to me in the spring of 2002. I was hooked from the first page of the first book -- this one: Richard Rahl lives in an area without magic, but one day meets Kahlan, a woman with tremendous gifts; then he discovers his own gift as The Swordbearer -- and I read all seven books, one right after the other.

Prequel Debt of Bones
1. Wizard's First Rule (available in the PSC Library)
2. Stone of Tears (available in the PSC Library)
3. Blood of the Fold (available in the PSC Library)
4. Temple of the Winds (available in the PSC Library)
5. Soul of the Fire (available in the PSC Library)
6. Faith of the Fallen (available in the PSC Library)
7. The Pillars of Creation (available in the PSC Library)
8. Naked Empire (to be released in paperback June 2004)

If you like it, remember you don't have to buy the other books in the series -- you can get it from the public library. If your public library doesn't own the books, ask them about getting it on interlibrary loan. -- WV public libraries have a wonderful free interlibrary loan system, so use it! And if you're not from WV -- well, the public libraries in MD, PA*, OH, KY, TN and VA also have good interlibrary loan services as well.

and it ends beautifully too. and in the middle there is gripping, breath taking excitement! i think that i read the last 300 pages or so in one sitting, i just had to what was going to happen and also the mord-sith part i kind of skipped, just skimming the pages, it was too harsha and real! well all it was real and richard the greatest hero imaginable... well it was very good (sheepish grin) and thanks lcbane for a great series bookring, it's ready to travel to billhookbabe , saturday or sunday as friday is the weekend and thursday a half day here!

Where do I begin? The young innocent Richard, grieving for his murdered father and bullied by his condescending brother and looking for clues. He encounters a beautiful woman and so his adventures really start. I had this image of his as a weak man at the beginning, but he soon began to show his qualities and failings.

Richard encounters pain and loss, has to make big decisions and lead where others fear to tread. He suffers torture at the hands of the tortured and discovers true love. He develops so much as a character throughout the book and so does Kahlan, the woman, now the scene is set I am looking forward to the next one.

I read the book in a few days, I couldn't put it down although it is very long. I can see why LC would read them one after the other. There is a taster of the next book at the end, and now I am chomping at the bit for the next one.

To be sent on to Alanfoxboro on Monday.

Just wanted to let everyone so far know that I started the book last night. Might take me a bit to get through it (though not nearly as long as the wait ;) ).

Well! Excellent book and a good start to the series. I can't wait to see where the author takes it next. :)

I give thanks that I not only finished in time for Thanksgiving, but that it was a good book, though I thought the hero a bit whiney and childish at times. Everyone, but everyone seemed to have much more of a clue than he did as to what was going on.

Now it must continue its journey on to the next seeker. ;)
