Picked up at the September'09 Saturday Meetup of Boston Bookcrossing. The blurbs say - 'Red Sox' and 'Science Fiction'. Now, that is intriguing! Looking forward to reading it, and then passing on to , an enduring collector of Books with Boston in them. Thank you!

Nice yarn about the use of paranormal abilities in crime solving. Also an examination of the life of people with psychic abilities, their influences, and their fears. As down to earth as Science-fiction can ever get!

I claimed this well-traveled hardcover at today's meetup, intrigued by the Boston setting and the psychic-detective elements.

I liked the concept here, with the rather world-weary inconsistently-psychic Alan trying to cope with an escalating series of crimes. The scene-setting is effective - but I admit that once we find out just who's behind all this and what his goals are, things get pretty unpleasant.

I've noticed that it's challenging for authors to write psychic duels; barrages of illusions/nightmares/hallucinations make it tricky for both the character and the reader to figure out what's going on, and it tends to take me out of the story. That said, the final battle here was pretty effective - though I'm not quite sure I bought the way it finished up; conveniently-distracted-villain syndrome, perhaps?
