Journal Entry 1 by Amorae from Ottawa, Ontario Canada on Wednesday, June 04, 2003
I'm a sucker for Cleopatra stories and have read many fictional accounts as well as biographies, of the last Pharoh of Egypt. Margaret George does an unsusally good job of portraying Cleopatra believably. Her style is both entertaining and sympathetic. George does a wonderful job of making Cleoptra's life exciting without giving in to the unfortunate tendecy among writers to make her lurid and licentious. Give it a read. You'll enjoy every page and probably won't notice until you are finished the formidable length of the text.

This very long book took me quite a while to read, but it was worth it. Although fiction, the author was very painstaking in her research and presented the story as close to the truth as she could (also presenting an excellent historical note at the end).

Wow. Karendawn wasn't kidding about the size of this puppy. However, it looks fascinating and I'm eager to read it. Just gotta find the time now...

This started out really well but got so bogged down in minutae that I just couldn't finish it; I was too bored. Ordinarily, I really like historical fiction. But it needs to have a stronger plot than "The story of Cleopatra's life."
