The Mom-orium bookbox has arrived. This is one the books that I have selected from it.
I didn't care for it very much. The characterizations did not seem consistent or real. Part of that inconsistency is how we jump around in subject; weather, Vietnam, who is committing murders, TV news and the death penalty. The author uses the book as a forum to express opinions on these things sometimes rather than telling a story. He also seems to blame women for the crimes of men, he is pretty consistent with that opinion.
I really think that the invention of the electric chair is one of the sickest ever and I strongly dislike Thomas Edison for it's creation and all the killings, animal and human that have been committed with it.
The only thing that I really liked in the book was the weather but I'm one of those people who like to watch the weather channel.

I have decided to take this book from the bookbox. I enjoy a murder mystery every now and then and I tend to pass these kinds of books off to my Dad who also enjoys them.
Thank you for including me in this bookbox to remember your son, oliviapoolside!

I read this book on the plane to Toronto for a conference. It definitely held my attention through to the end. That being said it is NOT one of my favorite books for sure.
I enjoyed the serial killer mystery aspect of it and the weather aspect (the tornado part was fairly captivating), but had problems with the ending. I feel like the author really never knew where his book was going and just kind of coughed up an ending that was too convenient. Otherwise, most of the characters weren't very likeable or believable for that matter.
It was a decent airplane read though because I had nothing better to do (grin)
Thank you for sharing, oliviapoolside! I am going to hold onto this one until the next Calgary Bookcrossing meeting on Sept. 11 and see if another BC-er would like a go at this book.

I took this book to the Calgary Bookcrossing meeting today and passed it on to rureading, who is a mystery fan. Happy reading!
Minerva101 gave the book to me and I will journal it soon.
This book was difficult to read because of all the different issues the author wanted to include, and it weakened the mystery plot. I wouldn't look for another book by this author.
I'll return the book to Minerava101 at the next Meetup.

Took the book to the November Calgary BC Meetup at the Joshua Tree Cafe.
I caught this book back from rureading at the Calgary BC meeting today. I am going to use it as a RABCK for the next person that requests one of my books from the Mystery VBB I am participating in so this book will go to another mystery fan who may like it more than rureading or I did. Gotta keep it moving....
:)
:)
I decided to send this to Brookler as a RABCK along with her VBB selection from me.
Happy reading, Brookler!

What a surprise! I chose one mystery book, and Minerva101 sends two! (Plus cute bookmarks, lol) Thanks so much.
I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. I like murder mysteries, but serial killers and psycho-killers turn me off, so I read the prologue with a good deal of trepidation. However, I found this book a cut above the usual murder mystery. For one thing, the murderer was far from obvious, and the book was filled with interesting weather facts as well as a strong polemic against the death penalty.
I found this book better written than the typical murder mystery, though I thought the ending was unclear and left too many unanswered questions.
