Brilliant! Thankyou for such a lovely NSS package.
I thought, as I work on the West End production based on this book, I should really read it! I've enjoyed other books by Michael Morpurgo also, so hope this will be just as good

I would never normally say this as I hate it when adaptations change a story - but I prefer the play! I think the changes that were made have made this a more interesting story. In addition, though I have enjoyed Morpurgo's writing before, I dont think this is his most skillful work by any means.

Still, very interesting to see where my show began!

~~ Heavenly Suprise Rabck ~~
What I got today!
*Smiling*

Thank you very much Vekiki! A Morpurgo book! It is a Suprise, Suprise!! I was at home in the morning when the postman usually comes, but he did not ring me up. I went to my yoga class in the afternoon, coming home to have not the slightest idea, but for my suprise I found a book which had been waiting for me all day long :)
Is there a play for it? Well it could be very interesting. :)
Thanks your praise about my English, I love it so much. I feel so proud! :)

I never got to see the play in London as it was sold out. It's good to know what strings to pull the next time I'm over, as we have a bookcrosser working on the production... Will have to come with loads of buttons...
In the meantime, looking forward to reading this. Thanks Hakkalina for sending it!

Never heard of Morpurgo before, so can't compare to anything he has previously written. It was eons ago when I last read Black Beauty, but that book obviously leaped to mind when reading this.
War horses definately deserve a book or two. Some have been written in Finnish, too, as the Finnish army moved either by horse or by foot in WW2. We didn't have tanks or motor cars as nobody thought there would be a war ("Only a madman would start another war" said our head of the state... Well, he was right, but little good did that do to us) and men didn't even have uniforms to begin with, they left in their own clothes. Most fighting was done in places where there were no roads, so horses were the only possible means of transportation. And the courige of them was remarkable.
As I said I haven't seen the stage version of War Horse, but one usually tends to prefer the thing he/she has seen/read first, be it a movie or a theatre production vs a book. That seems the original to the person in question.
I'm not sure I want to see this in the theatre as I will most certainly run out of Kleenex no matter how big a box now that I know what lies ahead. When I went to see the Les Miserables for the first time there was a man sitting beside me who burst into tears after the second sentence and I thought I had missed something crucial. When the show came to Finland and I went to see it, it was also on line two that the flood gates opened - the whole story came back so powerfully that I sobbed all through the preformance.
Now the book continues to flossie771. Enjoy!

Oppem, the Bookcrosser who previously journalled this book, passed away on June 23, 2012. I had the privilege of meeting her dear family and "catching" her large collection of registered books. I will be releasing this one soon.
