Looked interesting.

The first in a series of three novels, with more to follow. Flint, a lawyer by training, makes use of her knowledge of the legal systems and cultures of SE Asia. This novel is at times gentle and satirical in tone, not unlike Colin Cottrell's Dr Siri Paiboum novels set in Laos.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
I hope you enjoy this too. Thank you for RABCKing me first :o)
Received this today - thanks a lot, Cross-patch!
A good, easy, entertaining whodunit with subtle humour. There are some interesting twists and turns, and quite a bit of background information about Malaysia and Singapore, including rainforest / human rights issues, the difficult relationship between the two countries, nice descriptions of KL etc. Recommendable.

I enjoyed this murder mystery...a light enough read, but quite entertaining. Flint has used her legal knowledge well, and coupled with her knowledge of SE Asian cultures, the book provides an interesting storyline against an even more interesting backdrop. Having visited KL recently, I enjoyed her descriptions and views on the city and its history, and comparisons with Singapore. I also like her style of humour - some lines made me laugh out loud. Singh makes for a believable and very human character - he's no heroic, dashing policeman, (and a Sardar on top of that!) but knows how to do his job. Likeable. Looking forward to reading some more of this series. Thanks ApoloniaX, for introducing me to it!

Thank you! I forgot to journal this last week when I arrived back to campus but I'm looking forward to reading it!
What a fun mystery to help me pass the boring hours at work when there's nothing to do. I was caught by surprise at the end - what a great twist! There are several mystery fans in the calgary bookcrossing meetup group so this will stay behind with them.
Left with mom to take to the Aug. meeting.

Brought home some pretty great books from the August meet-up of Calgary BookCrossers.

This book is really doing some great traveling!
I thoroughly enjoyed this mystery. Great characters and a story that kept me guessing until the end!
This will surely find more Calgary readers!

I enjoyed this exotic local for this. He is an interesting detective. I liked the way his mind worked and seeing the cultural complications to the case. I would certainly read another of this series. My husband enjoyed it too.
I am taking this to the meeting at Cravings to see if I can find a new reader for it.
I decided to try a murder mystery set in SE Asia for a change. From previous JE's it appears I can anticipate a good story. :)
An interesting mystery with lots of information about South-East Asia and ecological issues endangering rainforests. Inspector Singh is a charachter I didn't care for, and I thought the mystery actually moved along without much help or hindrance from Singh.
Took the book to the Calgary BC meetup today.
PIcked up this book from the July Calgary BookCrossing meetup.
This is a quirky mystery that had me guessing until the end. I liked the Malaysian setting and the lead character. It did drag a bit during some parts, but overall I found it an enjoyable read.
Bringing to December bookcrossing meetup in Calgary.
Picked up this book at the Calgary BookCrossing December meet-up. Looks like a good international mystery.
I enjoyed the book for the most part. I'm not familiar with Malaysia or Singapore so it was interesting to read about the different cultures there. And while not all detective novels should be told strictly from the detective's point of view, I feel like the book should have stayed within Singh's POV right through the entire story. He doesn't affect the plot as much as he should as the main character. Overall, though, a good mystery that keeps you guessing until the end.
Passing this book on to the next reader at the Calgary BookCrossing January meet-up.
It always amazes me when I am passed a book at a Calgary Meetup and I discover that I have a book in my hands that has travelled all over the world and has been read by Bookcrossing friends. I feel like bumping this book up higher in my TBR Mountain Range
