A multi-generational story based around the extraordinary true story of Errol Flynn's arrival in 1940s Jamaica. The Pirate's Daughter follows Ida, a young girl who falls for Flynn's legendary charms. Through the eyes of Ida and her daughter, May, it also tells the story of their home, Jamaica before and after independence.

Couldn't get into this one which was a shame as it got some really good reviews.

I'm going to offer it up as a bookring and see if anybody is interested.

I really enjoyed this book, particularly the Jamaican patois. I found that aspect fascinating. It waqs written very evocatively, but not in an overly flowery way--I have clear images in my head of both the Plumbago House and Bella Vista. And it has, inevitably, made me want to go to Jamaica and se for myself.

I've never been one for Flynn movies, being more of a Gene Kelly type, but I'd met Errol, as it were, in David Niven's books, and he's just as human here. Flawed, eminently imperfect, but somehow charismatic.

A thick book, but a page-turner. I recommend it.
