Nemesis
Elderly and mild-mannered Jane Marple would never have thought that anyone could consider her a ruthless person. Yet that was apparently how Jason Rafiel had regarded her. She remembered her Caribbean holiday some time ago, and how she had enlisted his help in solving a mysterious murder case... Nemesis! That was the word she had used then... Now, the wealthy Mr Rafiel has died, leaving a letter quoting that same word and asking for her help in solving a crime and rectifying a wrong. He doesn't specify what the crime was, but only gives her some strange instructions. In complying with these, Miss Marple finds herself on a coach tour in a part of rural England, where she is soon faced with a number of baffling problems. Was it just an accident that has caused the death of a member of their coach party? And those unsolved mysteries from the past: two young local girls - one who had disappeared without trace and the other who was brutally murdered. Was Mr Rafiel's wayward son, Michael, really responsible for either or both of these? Miss Marple's intuition, experience and tenacity are tested to the limit in seeking the answers to these and many other questions, and she realises that Mr Rafiel was right - in fulfilling the role of Nemesis she does become quite ruthless. She finds, too, that her search for the truth eventually places her in an extremely perilous situation...
