From the back cover: '''Mr Pinter's terrifying blend of pathos and hatred fuses unforgettably into the stuff of art.' Sunday Times Stanley Webber is visited in his boarding house by two strangers, Goldberg and McCann. An innocent-seeming birthday party for Stanley turns into a nightmare.' This is a slightly oversized paperback edition from faber and faber, published in 1991. The play was first published in 1960. I have read one other play by Pinter, and seen one produced ... the same one, in fact, The Homecoming. It was ... not enjoyable, but interesting. I'll be reading this one too. I bought this book at a flea market at Stenbråten elementary school in Oslo on Sunday, April 19th, 2009.

I've read this book now, finished it today. Did I like it? Hard to say. To be honest I understood very little of this play. :-D It didn't make a lot of sense to me, it seemed to be a pretty meaningless story - I can only assume there was a subtext to it that I failed to pick up. Otherwise I have no clue. I guess if I saw it on stage I might understand it more. We'll see, if I ever get the chance to. The book will now be released.
