I adore the writing of Helene Haff - so human, so funny, so warm! A keeper :-)
Amazon Review
A collection of anecdotes on life in New York from Helene Hanff of '84 Charing Cross Road' fame.
Helene Hanff wrote a monthly letter from New York for the BBC Women's Hour, describing her life and friends in the 'last small town in America'. Don't be put off by it being written for a women's radio programme - it would appeal to a much wider audience than middle-aged matrons. I read this book before my first visit to New York, and it made me want to go there even more. She writes wonderful descriptions of her friends and their pets and their daily lives in Manhattan - a very different place from what I had imagined it to be. It's a chatty, warm and funny book. I intend to read it again and again.
