So I'd seen a lot of reviews from people- on blogs, on Bookcrossing, etc- about how great this book was. When I saw it at the library booksale last year, I picked it up, but didn't get too excited about it. But now that I'm on a British royalty reading kick, I decided to pick it up- since unbeknownst to me the mystery is about Richard III.

And I have to say the book was pretty friggin' great. I'm not sure how Josephine Tey managed to take something so boring as laying in bed with a broken leg and doing really dry historical research and make it interesting, but she did it. I'd grown up with the "Richard III is a monster" teaching also so it was very interesting. And I'm glad to realize I know enough about history to have picked up that More was not a contemporary of Richard (all this British royalty reading is making me quite smart!)

I can also see how there are people who love this book such that it's become one of those beloved books that one reads over and over (like I read Little Women or Gone with the Wind.) I don't think I'm there with it, but it was good stuff!

I looooooved this book. I wonder if Sharon Kay Penman, the author of The Sunne in Splendour (thoroughly researched historical novel about Edward IV and Richard III and one of my top 10 favorite books of all time) read Daughter of Time and was inspired by it.

Thanks so much for popping this into indy's bookbox, jnpert. I've been wanting to read this for some time and I'm SO glad I finally did.
