In Defense of Food: An Eater's Manifesto

Another great reminder from Michael Pollan that even the simplest and most seemingly innocent elements of life - in this case, food - are not safe from corruption. This short book is less emotional and evocative than earlier works, The Botany of Desire and The Omnivore's Dilemma, but is packed with footnoted factual data and advances a strong argument (as if one was needed) for turning away from processed food. As good journalism should be doing in other places, Pollan's work leaves the reader with a sense of well supported outrage. If this book interests you, also consider My Year of Meats by Ruth Ozeki and Foodfight by Daniel Imhoff.
