The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie

From the back cover:
'''All my pupils are the crème de la crème'
When an unbridled schoolmistress with advanced ideas is in her prime, the classroom can take on a new identity and no one can predict what will happen.
Muriel Spark's sparkling, witty story of Miss Brodie's prime and fall is unbeatable.
'A brilliant psychological fugue' - Observer
'Muriel Spark's most celebrated novel ... This ruthlessly and destructively romantic school ma'am is one of the giants of post-war ficiton'
-Independent
'The most gifted and innovative British novelist of her generation' - David odge in The New York Times'
This is an oversized paperback edition from Penguin, a movie tie-in edition published in 1965. Umpteenth reprint. :-) The book was originally published in 1961.
This book is #450 on the list of 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die.
I haven't read this book, and I'm not going to either ... at least not this copy. I have another copy somewhere that I plan to read. I will update this book's journal with some thoughts when I have done so. It sounds like an entertaining read. :-)
I bought this book at a flea market at Stenbråten elementary school in Oslo on Sunday, April 19th, 2009.

EDIT: Book read and definitely enjoyed. A little dated I guess, but well written.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
Convention release!
Picked up from the book buffet.
Well, this is one of these classics that you think you know. Unfortunately it wasn't as exciting as I expected. The most well known phrases, "the creme de la creme" and "I'm in my prime" appear in the first chapter and are repeated throughout. Actually the repetition becomes a little boring.
This copy also has margin notes which is a little annoying even although I couldn't understand them.
