I will take this book to Nauvo to the Finnish bookcrosser's Summer Days.

From back:
South Africa is in flames. The battle against white oppression is raging. Forced to flee their comfortable middle-class home, Maureen, Bam and their children seek refuge in the village of their black man-servant, July.

Spotted July’s People on the book buffet at the all-Finland meet-up in Nauvo this week-end and asked a couple of BC’ers about it. Since they recommended it, I just had to take the book with me. I’m interested in African literature, and this book looks really interesting. I just couldn’t resist it. Thanks, Louhi!

Chrysalis700, I'm afraid the site has changed the book category. I doubt if you thought it's either crime or mystery. ;-)
As a matter of fact, I think it might be called sci-fi, at least if one defines the genre as something that sets in future. July's People does that, even if the future is past now. The book was first published in 1981, during the South African apartheid policy, and sets in the near future. There's a civil was in South Africa, blacks against whites. Today, it tells us what could have happened.
However, that's not all. July's People is an interesting study on power and human relationships, it really has a lot to give to its readers even in the 21st century. Very powerful book, great story. Thank you so much for introducing this little gem to me, Chrysalis700 & Louhi! Happy New Year to you both!
This book is now reserved for Annimanni's All About Africa VBB.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

On its way to Icila who won it in Annimanni's All About Africa VBB raffle. Enjoy!

Darn, there's something wrong with the way the site reads time. I put the book in the mail box today, March 3rd, around 5 pm.
Edited to add that it wasn't the site's fault, after all. I made the release note on library computer which, obviously, has a wrong date. So sorry, bookcrossing.com. The fault was mine.

I found the reading a bit difficult in this broken and fragmented english. I felt a lot of compassion with Maureen but I don't understand her leaving without her children. Was she suffering a nervous breakdown?
I reserve the book for another "Annimanni's All About Africa VBB".

Interesting idea but I'm afraid this one didn't really grab me - a bit disjointed and like icila, I don't really understand the ending.
