I read this one back in June, but have been slack with making journal entries on books lately so getting around to doing so now.
A travel book that is of a different sort - Douglas Kennedy travels through America's bible belt to find out more of the reasons for and motivations of the religious revival.
The people he meets on his trip are an interesting bunch and some would be what I'd calling religious nuts (speaking of which I love the quote "God wants spiritual fruit, not religious nuts" - brilliant!)
I'm not one for the extremist views held by some Christians and as some one who could be quite critical of religion in the past (and even though I'm a Christian now I still feel appalled at what some people say and do in the name of God)
I liked that the author didn't ridicule anyone because they believed and I also enjoyed his writing style and background information on various things. I also enjoyed his observations on how close people in a church can be, in the church I attend in Auckland I think of them being like my family.
