I started reading this series in the early 90's and was sucked in quite thoroughly. It was my "serious" read, compared to Braun's "Cat Who" series, whick I also picked up around the same time.
What exactly drew me in? Kinsey's "loner" behavior mirrored the lifestyle I've always felt most comfortable in (you name it--school, family reunions, malls-- nightmare!). Grafton's writing style has the sort of "flow" conducive to finishing the book in one sitting (the right balance of observation, thought, action, etc.)

Description from back cover:
"Kinsey meets him in a local gym. Bobby Callahan is a scarred young man struggling back to life after a car forced his Porsche over the edge of a canyon, battering his body and muddling his memory. All he remembers is that someone, for some reason, tried to kill him. Desperate for clues about his own past life and certain he is being stalked, he asks Kinsey to protect him. Kinsey can't resist the brave kid--and neither can the killers. Three days later Bobby is dead. Kinsey Millhone never welshed on a deal. She's been hired to stop a killing. Now she'd find the killer."

Great read. Kinsey is an unlikely but completely charming heroine. Her compassion and feelings for the "corpse" are stirring, as is her dedication to her friends. This book comes down to the wire with a bang. I figured out part of the mystery long before Kinsey did, but was dumbfounded by the revelation of the killer. The epilogue is quite touching. Can't wait to read more of Sue Grafton's books.

Will mail this on to lennonchick78 on Monday, 7/28.
