Found on the bookshelf at work: a book of short stories I am enjoying them more towards the end of the book.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES: Going back on the bookshelf at work. I took the liberty of giving this a BCID as it had been on the shelf for 2 1/2 years before I read it! A little bit tatty, but I have rescued this as I saw it on a wishlist!

Journal Entry 3 by Cinderess on Tuesday, March 02, 2010

Thanks very much for sending this to me. I just started The Beacon by Susan Hill last night, funnily enough. There's nothing, so far, which I've read that I haven't liked by this author.

Loved all the stories. I read half travelling to and from London to meet a Bxr friend for the day. I was going to pick my favourite but can't as it would end up being all of them. I do think that one could easily be transformd into a full length novel - Red and Green Beads. I'd love to know much more about the characters' histories. Susan Hill is one of my tip top favourite authors. I absolutely love anything she writes. I once read someone's review of her books syaing she's stuck in a 1950s time warp. There might be some truth in that! However I don't view that as a weakness or criticism at all. This copy may have been partly studied for a course as the first few stories have underlined phrases. I found this irritating AND intriging. I'd like to have read the resulting essay given the passages underlined. I've done a bit of a rubbish repair on the book as it came to me with loose pages (but then I think it might be rather old.) I think it's probably not going to be travelling for too much longer due to the state its in. Sending as a RABCK to another Bxr whose courage made me cry on a BC related site.
