Blending myths and reality, this is the story of a man's escape from his native Zanzibar to come to England to build a new life, and his subsequent return to his homeland. It is a story of cultural identity and displacement.

It didn´t travel far, because it sounds interesting. I´v never read a book written by a Tanzanian author.

"The Times" titled the author as a compelling storyteller. That´s not what I thougt... In fact I needed some time to get into the book and already thought about dropping. The story by itself is very interesting and I can imagine that a lot of native Africans who came to live in Europe endured the same feelings and views.
I recently attended a seminar holded by IDEA (The International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistence) here in Stockholm and some passages reminded me of the problems which were discussed during the seminar. There are a lot of cultural differencies one should always bear in mind.
