Journal Entry 3 by mysticalzoe from Gardiner, Maine USA on Thursday, May 28, 2009
I just got the book in yesterday, thanks for sending this, looking forward to reading it!! 7-14-09 Wow this book is awesome, I am so glad I got the chance to read this. The movie doesn't even compare, this book gives more detail, and I am having a hard time putting it down!! I am going to see if anyone is willing to have this book travel on a book ring, people need to read this book, it's not as gruesome as the movie, not even close. Thanks for sharing this book!! The Silence of the Lambs, by Thomas Harris, is even better than the successful movie. Like his earlier Red Dragon, the book takes us inside the world of professional criminal investigation. All the elements of a well-executed thriller are working here--driving suspense, compelling characters, inside information, publicity-hungry bureaucrats thwarting the search, and the clock ticking relentlessly down toward the death of another young woman. What enriches this well-told tale is the opportunity to live inside the minds of both the crime fighters and the criminals as each struggles in a prison of pain and seeks, sometimes violently, relief. Clarice Starling, a precociously self-disciplined FBI trainee, is dispatched by her boss, Section Chief Jack Crawford, the FBI's most successful tracker of serial killers, to see whether she can learn anything useful from Dr. Hannibal Lecter. Lecter's a gifted psychopath whose nickname is "The Cannibal" because he likes to eat parts of his victims. Isolated by his crimes from all physical contact with the human race, he plays an enigmatic game of "Clue" with Starling, providing her with snippets of data that, if she is smart enough, will lead her to the criminal. Undaunted, she goes where the data takes her. As the tension mounts and the bureaucracy thwarts Starling at every turn, Crawford tells her, "Keep the information and freeze the feelings." Insulted, betrayed, and humiliated, Starling struggles to focus. If she can understand Lecter's final, ambiguous scrawl, she can find the killer. But can she figure it out in time? I would like to see this travel and will put it up for a book ring, hopefully people will be interested in it. 1.kerbam1421~US only 2.allthepieces~PA US shipping only 3.sothisdhampir~int'l if need be 4.Jonniboi~UK<--it's here! 5.corearmy~Vilseck Germany, ships int'l 6.Back to me mysticalzoe

Journal Entry 9 by allthesepieces from Mount Carmel, Pennsylvania USA on Wednesday, October 14, 2009
I finished this late last night, and I was suprised with how much I enjoyed it. I wanted to read it slowly, but as I kept reading, I realized that I didn't want to put it down. I ended up taking it along to a doctor's appointment so I could read a few pages while I was waiting to be seen. When my doctor saw the book, she had quite a few questions about it, and then told me not to read it late at night. I ignored her advice. :) I'm not normally drawn to thrillers, but for some reason, this one seemed "safe." I'm afraid I don't have much to say about the story, but the characters were rather impressive. The most brilliant thing about this book, I think, is just how damn likable Dr. Lecter is. It's quite a realistic trait for a psychopath to exhibit, and makes him all the more frightening. Thanks for including me in this ring. I'm looking forward to reading the other books in the trilogy now that I've finished this one. I recently sent another book along to sothisdhampir, so I still have shipping information. I should have this in the mail by the end of the week.

Journal Entry 13 by sothisdhampir from Fort Worth, Texas USA on Tuesday, November 03, 2009

WOW! What an enjoyable book. I don't typically read these types of books, I tend to get bogged down with all the mentions of law and FBI, but for the most part all that took a backseat in this book, and the author rather told the story of two distrubed crimnal masterminds. I greatly enjoyed the characters of Hannibal Lecter and "Buffalo Bill", and I thought it a bit of a shame that Buffalo Bill couldn't stick around longer so we could really and truely see his madness. I have seen the movie to this once before, but only recall little things. In some ways I perfered the book, and others in perfered the movie. Once in a while the book did drag, and I just plain didn't like Clarice, she was far to typical for a cop/FBI agent, but I did enjoy that Lecter was able to see right though her sheilds and break her down, and that he enjoyed doing it as well. But for the small flaws in the book, there as so much more than I liked about it, althought it wasn't as bloody as I thought it would be. I think I will likely read the next in the series at some point. Also a bit of an intresting syncronization, while I was reading this my room appeared to temporally become the home for two little brown moths! :) I enjoyed the symbolism with the moths very much, a shame my little vistors couldn't be huge Death Head moths. :) Thank you for including me in this ring. :) I am a bit low on money this week, so I'll get the next address next week and then send it on it's way.
