Thank you very much for sendig this book as a bookray. I just finished it (a little later than I hoped to do so). I enjoyed the beginning of the book, but in the middle (after the first backflash) I think the story got a bit boring, and just started making sense on the last two pages.
After all (and after 160 pages) I started thinking about decision making in life - what chances do I let pass by because of doing nothing at all?
Not among my favourites or best reads ever - but quiet okay! Thank you very much for this ray.
RESERVED for Qantaga (got her adress already - thank you)and will send the book tomorrow

The book arrived safely :). I'll get started right away. Thanks for offering this as a bookring (and also thanks for sending)!
I'm not sure what to say about this book. At first, I wasn't even sure if I wanted to finish it at all because I just couldn't relate to the characters and I found their stories quite dull. But then I was glad I persevered - the second part was a lot better and I really liked the ending.
Thanks a lot for sharing this! Will travel on to Urfin tomorrow.

Thank you, the book has arrived. I'm looking forward to reading it.
After Atonement, Saturday, and Enduring Love, this is my fourth McEwan.
It is certainly better than the latter, which I'd rather unlearn again... but it is somewhat different than the above three.
I'm astonished how very convincingly (male) McEwan writes the female character. Florence is totally believable.
I read the first four parts so far but not part five, so I don't now yet how the situation will resolve (if it resolves at all... as I hope...) but here is one nice paragraph:
"He was discovering that being in love was not a steady state, but a matter of fresh surges and waves, and he was experiencing one now." (p.125)
Too bad they were too young and proud to talk :o(

Heute eingetroffen - vielen Dank!
Hm, on the one hand I liked the story. Like the topic and the structure, changing in years and view. The ending is just brilliant...
On the other hand I would have liked even more background on Edward and Florence. I always felt there was something missing. Maybe, it's because I'm usually not into short stories.
Thanks for sharing the book with us, Wattgirl! As I'm the last reader of the ray, I'll take it with me tomorrow and see if someone at the Bonn-Rheinauen-Picknick is interested in it...
