The Wind-up Bird Chronicle

Picked this up at a used bookstore for cheap. It is apparently vintage Murakami, and sine i have not read anything by this author, i thought i maybe should.
From the back: "Toru Okada's cat has disappeared and his wife is growing more distant every day. Then there are the increasingly explicit phone calls he has started receiving. As this compelling story unfolds, the tiny suburban realities of Okada's vague and blameless life-- spent cooking, reading, listening to jazz and opera and drinking beer at the kitchen table--- are turned inside out, and he embarks on a bizarre journey, guided by a succession of characters, each with a tale to tell."
Sounds good! Will get to it in due course.

This was a great book--- quiet at first, and then turns into a whirlwind of surrealism and confusion. A little confusing by times, but in the end really quite readable and intrigiung. I really liked it and will definitely look for more by Murakami

So she read it but didn't take it with her, as it is quite big. Passed on to another friend in Johannesburg. Hope they journal!
