July 26th
This book was a very fast read, I started this morning and finished it, as it is now 10:30am. I don't have much to say about this book, except that it really depressed me and made me not want to go to California. Not for the prudent heart. Thanks for sharing with me and as soon as I get next the person's address I will mail out!

So the book was a bit depressing, but it made me think of different relationships. I felt that Jesse was looking for some thing that was missing in her life, and at the same time trying to be someone she's not. She kept walking on the "wild" side (and putting herself in danger), but I think at the same time she was trying to create herself into a different person. Maybe she was doing it to save herself from being like her mom.

Thanks for sharing this book with me. I'll be sending it out tomorrow to the next person.

I received this in the mail today. I look forward to reading it. I should finish my current read up tonight or tomorrow and will start on this. Right now, I am going to PM the next participant to get an address for sending it off once I am done. It appears to be a quick read.

Journal Entry 10 by guinaveve from Mason, Ohio USA on Wednesday, August 12, 2009

This book has not been rated.

I usually try to take it easy when sharing my feelings about a bookring book, but I have to be honest, I hated this book. There may as well have been 2-3 characters instead of several. They were all so similar in a way that really annoys me. What I mean is that I like my characters to be real. All of the people that Jesse interacted with, except her mother, were constantly saying deeply personal and bizarre things meant to be profound. Her live-in boyfriend, Pig, people she just met that she came to know better, and perfect strangers all interacted with Jesse this way. Jesse was similar, but we see inside her head more. She was no better really though. I just can't take a character seriously who says, "He is too beautiful for this world" about a living person and thinks it is a meaningful and true phrase.
As for the ending, I saw it coming. There really could be no other ending, but again, the act committed by Bell in the end was meant to be so deep which just romanticizes something that isn't.
Hopefully other readers at me will enjoy it more than I did. I have the address of the next participant and will be sending this out in the next couple of days.

5 out of 10

There were parts I liked, and others I didn't. I was really annoyed by the main character. I felt like she didn't do much, except obsess about her boyfriend and try to be "dangerous." I love San Fran, so I was interested in the city and all of the sex of course, lol. But, as a whole, I just thought it was okay. Thanks for sharing the book with us! :)

This book was pretty strange, and I like strange books! I felt sad for Jesse with her warped sense of a relationship.
