UPDATE: 7/17/03 (my 27th birthday :o)
At first glance this book seems like another chick lit novel about the girl who cannot seem to keep a guy. But after reading it I realized it's deeper than that. The story of Phoebe's love life (which starts in fifth grade and the book ends in her young adulthood) is a complicated one. She cannot get it together. Without giving away too much, let's just say she's a little bit confused on whether she wants to be the victim or the aggressor.
The layout of the book is pretty cool. Each chapter is about a different love interest. At times this made it confusing because it could be difficult to keep up with her constant jumping from guy to guy. But overall it's a cool way to deliver the book's message.
Out of the guys she dated personally I think Neil Schmertz was my kind of man. :o)

This is one of several CHICKLIT BOOKRAYS that I hope to read this summer and then start on a bookray journey after I'm done with it! Hopefully by August this book will be on the road!
What’s a bookray and how does it work?
A bookray is when a book passes from person to person based on the list of members involved. Preferably a bookray book is never released into the wild.
To join this bookray (or any other bookray of mine) please private message me. I will be glad to add you to the list. New members are added all of the time so be sure to check the list of participants before you mail the book to the next in line just in case!
Once you are a bookray member you will receive the book from the person listed before you. When you receive the book please make a journal entry stating that you’ve received it. Then read it as soon as you can (no absolute hurry, just be reasonable please :o), and journal again with your thoughts. You’ll then need to private message the person on the list after you for their address. Mail the book by media mail (it’s cheaper!), and make release notes on the book only if you’d like to. Then sit back and watch the continuing journey!
The members are as follows:
jkate (California)
ellymae58 (California)
DrBrown (California)
kbgoffe (Oregon)

Starting the bookray! I hope everyone enjoys it.

Got today! Will read ASAP.
I LOVED this book! At first I thought it would be very light chick-lit reading, but instead it provided a look on this smart great woman and all the wrong men she chooses. Plus it's funny as heck.
Oh boy, can't tell you happy I was to find this book in my mailbox today! It was time to select a new book to read, and I wasn't able to get into the bookray title I had here. I will get started on this right away, and journal again soon!
Thanks jkate for sending it to me, and thanks pgsahm for sharing it with us!

I'm still waiting for the funny parts...
LOL I know what you mean about the funny parts.... I expected it to be hilariously funny as well, but it didn't come across that way. Maybe the humor was different than what I expected. Hopefully you'll enjoy the book at least a bit! :o)
I really hate not liking a book that everyone else seems to have liked. But we all have different tastes, and there's certainly been many books that I've liked that others have hated! I just did not enjoy this book. I never once laughed, and I found I was very bored with the majority of the 'chapters'. I didn't like any of the men, (until I got to the end, and Bo Pierce) and I didn't like the main character, either.
I appreciate you sharing this, pgsahm, and it will be moving on to the next reader shortly.

Don't feel bad... I think I thought it was funny because I loved the 80's references! But I agree, she had to be with a lot of frogs before she got to her prince.
Warning... don't read this until you're done with the book!
I also think it had to do with the fact that she was friends with Bo is why it worked. With the other guys it went too soon-but with Bo it was slow and friendly.
Just my two cents!

I'd heard a lot about this one... how depressing it was, how funny it was, yadda yadda yadda. Reading it was interesting. Although I grew up in California and not New Jersey/New York, and although the main character is around half a decade younger, I identified with her experiences to an astonishing degree. Lucinda Rosenfeld has the dating life of the '70's and '80's down pat. I didn't like this so much as I felt like I was re-reading my diary, but that in itself is a literary achievement. I'd definitely recommend this one to anyone between thirty and forty-five!
Received today...I have a bunch on the piles before this one, so I will try to get to it as soon as I can.
I am not getting to this one in a timely manner (I give myself a month) so I will be sending this on to the next person.
Arrived in the mail today. Thanks!
I was unable to work through this book, so I went ahead and sent it on to hulamonkey today...12/11/03.
Looking forward to reading.
Received in yesterday's mail...will start reading soon and will journal again when I have finished.
A funny book with a genuine narrator.
kayters wants to be moved to the end of the list, so I am sending to Maurean in Atlantic Beach, FL.

Just to let everyone know-there is now a sequel to this book! It continues on with Phoebe moving back to her parents' house. I can't wait to read it, and if anyone gets it and wants to do a bookray, let me know!
Just got this out of the mailbox today. As is always the case, I am currently in the throws of another book, but this will take priority atop my TBR pile, and I will journal again as soon as its read. (Thanks for sharing pgsahm!)
Not the typical chick-lit that I was expecting - Not hysterically funny; more charmingly amusing; rather comically introspective - I found myself nodding and smiling throughout. I concur with Dr.Brown, a must read for any woman betweeen the ages of 32 and 40!
And now, it will continue its journey down thru Naples, FL, on its way to bookaholic1346. mailed 3/19

Received today! Will read and pass along.
It's here. I've got a few ray/ring books in front of it, but I'll get to it ASAP. Thanks!
Who among us cannot relate to Phoebe Fine? We've all been there....the insecurity, the men, the feeling that we're somehow BETTER than all this. Very interesting book, and a bit sad, but only because of the memories and feelings it dredges up. Thanks so much for sharing this!
Received the book yesterday. Thanks a lot. Unfortunately I have to read two other bookring-books first, but I hope to keep the books stay in Vienna as short as possible.
Unfortunately I´m one of those who didn´t really like the book. It was sometimes interesting, sometimes sad or funny but I found Phoebe kind of annoying (*sorry*).
By quoting Maurean, "[...] a must read for any woman betweeen the ages of 32 and 40!", maybe I´m too young for this book? :-))
Nevertheless, thanks for sharing it!
Sent to Blacklilith yesterday.

It's here, and it's safe...just added to my TBR!
Just asked for the address to the next, sorry for this long stop and thanks a lot for this bookring! :-)))
