THE HIGH LORD Book III of The Black Magician Trilogy I've finished the series finally. Yes it's true, that the story takes up speed in this book so much more unexpected events happen than in the first two parts and it has a great showdown with a lot of drama. I also like the development of Sonea from a teenager to a young adult and evetually full adult. In this book Sonea and her mentor Akkatrin are being thrown out of Kyralia because they have been caught using black magic. Sonea who first thought that Akkarin was a villain for his use of black magic has learned that there is a real threat to Kyralia from the a black magic using people from a foreign land. She therefore agrees to be taught by Akkarin in secret so that if something happens to him she would continue protecting the city. After they are caught and exiled it becomes clear to the guild that the thread was genuine. The battle for Kyralia begins... I liked this third part a lot because of the twists and turns in the plot with this book one can really see that Trudi canavan is a great story teller. There has just been released a prequel to "The Black Magician" trilogy, namely "The Magician's Apprentice". It's set 500 years earlier to Sonea's time in Kyralia when the guild still used Black magic. Back then the mentors used their Apprentices as power sources. I am not sure if I will read this stand-alone nvel soon but it might be interesting for the background story of the trilogy, because I did enjoy reading the parts of the history book that Sonea got from Akkarin. There will also be a new trilogy set in Kyralia and the idea of magic and guild etc.. It will be about a new generation of characters.
