I bought this from Amazon as it's been chosen as our book club choice for May. I love Murakami and this is one that I've not yet read so I'm really looking forward to it.

I'm reading this first as I've just finished another book. I've read other Murakami books which I've enjoyed but haven't read one for a while so I'm enjoying it so far!

Another great book from Haruki Murakami. I really enjoyed this book, Murakami's writing is so poetic, every sentence seems to flow lyrically and his descriptions are beautiful. This story focuses on the loneliness of the main characters, Sumire particularly, and is told through the narration of Sumire's friend.

As with most of Murakami's books, they do tend to veer off into the weird and the wonderful and this is no exception. I always find his books to be a funny contrast between the real and the unreal, but nonetheless, despite not fully understanding it, I really enjoyed it!

Thanks for returning this to me KT-J; I've just finished my current read so that gives me six days to read before the book club meeting... Fingers crossed!

EDIT: 5th May - I finished this on Monday morning all in good time for the book club meeting. Thanks again Haruki Murakami for an enjoyable read. I totally agree with KT-J with regards to Murakami's writing being poetic - I just love his work. That being said I'd have to say that although I enjoyed it a lot it's not as good as some of his other novels.

Is this a tragic love triangle? Doesn't there have to be at least one consenting couple to make a triangle? None of the three main characters are in a "sexual" relationship with another of the triplet. K loves Sumire, Sumire loves Miu, Miu doesn't love anyone (does she?) and none of their love is reciprocal.

There are a lot of questions unanswered in this novel too; did Sumire end up in an alternate timeline or universe in Greece? Why didn't K and Miu get back in touch once they were back in Japan? Oh it's all very confusing but a riveting tale all the same.

This goes back into my permanent collection alongside my other Haruki Murakami books, sorry these are not available to other bookcrossers. If I get my hands on other copies of this book I will make them available.
