I enjoyed the film when I saw it, and from my experience the book is always better, so I look forward to reading it.

This was easier to read than I was expecting (having given up on a Henry James novel before), and I found myself reading it by torchlight when in a tent in Devon. I really liked the lead female character and the way that she fell in love without overdramatic, silly gestures/thoughts that are so common in love stories today. Well, to be honest you never really knew what was going on in her head, but despite her weaknesses, she came across as a strong character. Hollywood gave the book a bit of a makeover, to juice it up a bit - I liked the book better.

I did not finish the book until the journey back home from Devon, so was unable to leave it behind.
