Journal Entry 1 by Jannike from -- wild release somewhere in Oslo, Oslo fylke Norway on Friday, April 10, 2009
Seventeen-year-old Cassie Brittman is looking forward to her violin recital and the prom - until the hospital calls. Her grandfather, noted mystical painter Daniel Brittman, is dying. Cassie, her mother Anne, and Anne's new boyfriend travel to the Midwest farm where Anne was raised, and immediately see that things are far from normal. The farm, including Great-Grandmother Hannah's spiral garden, is almost destroyed, and someone (or something) seems to be stalking them. Cassie soon finds herself at the center of an ageold battle between two supernatural clans - the sinister, dark Red Clan and her own family, the Green Clan. For it turns out that Cassie's grandfather is half nature spirig, half human....

Yup, the book is with me, and I do have a friend who is a huge Midori Snyder fan. When I've read the book I will offer it to her. I've also read a couple of Snyder's previous novels, and quite enjoyed them, so I'm looking forward to reading this. :-) Thanks for sharing, Jannike! :-)

Journal Entry 4 by LeishaCamden from Alna bydel, Oslo fylke Norway on Tuesday, December 15, 2009
I've read this book now ... read it last month, or was it the month before? :-) I'm such a slow journaller, shame on me ... but better late than never. :-) This is a book for young readers - YA contemporary fantasy - but books in that genre are often quite good, and I really enjoyed this one. It was well written, the characters weren't brilliant but overall well enough portrayed to be intriguing ... the plot was the best part of the book, that and the setting. The old falling-down farm out in the boondocks ... the family secrets and all the old stories ... and of course great-grandmother Hannah's wonderful garden. :-) A very good sample of its genre, well worth reading IMO. It wasn't quite up there with Snyder's previous work, but that was adult fantasy so obviously intended to be more challenging than this. I liked the book a lot. Thanks for sharing, Jannike! This book will now be going to Croatia for Christmas. :-)
