Journal Entry 1 by Findabair from St. Hanshaugen bydel, Oslo fylke Norway on Friday, April 10, 2009
This book is written as one of the journals of Jane Austen, which was missing until recently. Do I believe in it as the journal of Jane Austen? No, I do not. That being said, I thought it was an entertaining piece of historical fiction, and one that touched me a little in spite of knowing how it would end. One other thing to be mentioned that I really, really like, is that the author explicitly states in a note what in the plot is based on what we know of Jane Austen's life, and what is her own inventions. From www.amazon.com: Review "Deserves front-runner status in the saturated field of Austen fan-fiction and film." -- Kirkus Reviews "James stays in perfect pitch as Jane Austen in this vivacious fiction. Fans of romance will love it." -- T. Jefferson Parker, author of L.A. Outlaws Review "Deserves front-runner status in the saturated field of Austen fan-fiction and film." (Kirkus Reviews ) Product Description Many rumors abound about a mysterious gentleman said to be the love of Jane's life—finally, the truth may have been found. . . . What if, hidden in an old attic chest, Jane Austen's memoirs were discovered after hundreds of years? What if those pages revealed the untold story of a life-changing love affair? That's the premise behind this spellbinding novel, which delves into the secrets of Jane Austen's life, giving us untold insights into her mind and heart. Jane Austen has given up her writing when, on a fateful trip to Lyme, she meets the well-read and charming Mr. Ashford, a man who is her equal in intellect and temperament. Inspired by the people and places around her, and encouraged by his faith in her, Jane begins revising Sense and Sensibility, a book she began years earlier, hoping to be published at last. Deft and witty, written in a style that echoes Austen's own, this unforgettable novel offers a delightfully possible scenario for the inspiration behind this beloved author's romantic tales. It's a remarkable book, irresistible to anyone who loves Jane Austen—and to anyone who loves a great story. About the Author Syrie James is a scholar of 19th-century British literature and a long-time admirer of Jane Austen’s work. A member of the Writer’s Guild of America, Syrie is a screenwriter and playwright; this is her first work of historical fiction.

I finished this book some time before my trip to London last week, so I haven't gotten around to making my JE before now. I liked this book, an average good read. I found it an entertaining story, even thought it isn't believable as "Jane Austen's lost diary", and you easily see the different twist and turns that the story will take. But I guess I am prejudice because of being a huge Austen fan ;-) The book is going back to Findabair when I see her next time. Thanks for sharing :-)
