I found it hard to put this book down. I was very afraid the "bad guy" would not get his comeuppance! This is a compelling and beautifully written book, but dark. The one problem I had was that I was a small child at the time this book is set and I think it would be unusual for a rural community to have three murders and a drowning all within about a week of each other. Of course, it's not impossible.
