Bought today from a charity shop. Different cover to that shown.

From the blurb:

"Olivia Yee is only five years old when Kwan, her older sister from China, comes to live with family and turns her life upside down, bombarding her day and night with ghostly stories of strange ancestors from the world of Yin. Olivia just wants to lead a normal American life.

"For the next thirty years, Olivia endures visits from Kwan and her ghosts, who appear in the living world to offer advice on everything from restaurants to Olivia's failed marriage. But just when she cannot bear it any more, the revelations of a tragic family secret finally open her mind to the startling truths hidden in Kwan's unorthodox vision of the world."

8 out of 10

"True & false - yin & yang. What does it matter".
What a good read. I loved the character, Kwan and her tales of China and different lives. Reality / fantasy - where does one end & the other begin... was hard to tell at times, keeping you guessing all the way to the end.....
The only parts that for me became tedious were some of the passages nearer the beginning / middle relating to the failing marriage of Libby-ah & Simon.... I found for me that they distracted from the really story...
All in all a very good read.....

9 out of 10

Thank you! Must have arrived yesterday and was waiting for me when I came home today from work. Looking forward to reading it!

The book went with me by plane via Frankfurt to Trondheim, by bus to Stugudal, on horseback through the Norwegian mountains over the border to the European Union again (this time Sweden), back to Norway. Somewhere in the mountains I finished the previous book and started reading this one, but still, it had to come with me by plane via Oslo and Düsseldorf back to Vienna - so it has already travelled a bit.

That´s a great book! I liked it a lot, like all Amy Tan books I´ve read...

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

the lady at the "post partner" counter (not a real post office - because there is no money in Austria for real post offices in the countryside - but a counter in a shop) asked me where "LIT-U-LIT-U-A-NIA-A" is.... when I pointed out it´s in the European Union and she can send it as a letter like she would send something to Germany, she did not believe me, but took out 2 different books to look it up... well, let´s see, if this ever arrives somewhere...

The book has arrived safely with some Father Christmas chocolade which I would have missed if I hadn't started to cut the pretty Lithuanian stamps out from the envelope. Will try to read this soon, have read only one Amy Tan previously and liked it.
