Dystopia in the Republic of Gilead. Disturbing, beautifully written, shocking... a must read.

Hayes, avevi ragione... non me ne sono pentita affatto! I like dystopian novels, but I had never heard of this one! A very, very interesting perspective and style. A couple of times I had the feeling the narration was getting too close to the verge of cliches, but it always surprised me eventually! Grazie davvero per avermi fatto conoscere questa autrice, e quest'opera in particolare. A must read indeed! Ho già avuto l'indirizzo da Gahan, quindi il libro riprenderà il suo viaggio domani.

Journal Entry 8 by Gahan from Ziano Piacentino, Emilia Romagna Italy on Friday, August 14, 2009
Didn't enjoy the book very much. It is well-written but I couldn't get into the plot. Too hopeless, too gloomy. Maybe it was not the right moment for me. Now it is already on its way to Mikime...

Journal Entry 10 by mikime from Roma, Lazio Italy on Thursday, September 03, 2009
This book is scary. Healthily so, probably. I read a lot of sci-fi/horror stories, but vampires and monsters are nothing compared to some parts of this novel. Maybe that's because it feels so much closer to a possible reality: this is what could happen, this is what some of us could have to do, this is how it could end. All through the horrible situations, I found the characters realistic and the story very insightful, and could not help a huge sigh of relief at the seemingly better turns of the events, so big was my empathy. I also liked the author's style, this is the first Atwood's book I read, but it definitely won't be the last. Grazie mille per il ring, Hayes! :) Lo spedisco appena ho l'indirizzo di Fimbrethyl. Miki EDIT: 5 settembre: spedito oggi.

I loved this book. Shocking, but beautiful .. But I do not know if it were not for the glimmer of hope that things may improve, if I had the strength to finish it .. A must read indeed. Thanks for the ring, Hayes. I sent the book to Pell the day before yesterday.

Journal Entry 14 by Pell from Canino, Lazio Italy on Thursday, October 29, 2009
I started to read this novel which I found very well written, but could not get into it, not matter how many times I picked it up. I must add though, that I do not usually read this type of book and when I joined this ring I thought that I ought to spread my reading wings just a little, so the problem is mine. I will contact the next person on the list and forward it on as soon as I receive her details and hope she enjoys. Thank you Hayes13 for starting this ring and allowing me to participate.
