Interesting book that was created out of a continuing thread from a newspaper. I'm hoping there's a sequel because the book doesn't quite seem finished.
Pass on to me with the recommendation of Nifferdoodle.
If you remember that this was written and meant to be read as a serialisation published in a paper it makes the book more enjoyable.
I enjoyed how each chapter ended in a wee cliff hanger, rather like Eastenders but without the "Dum, dum dah dum dah" music. Some of the characters were really funny.
Like all of Mr McCall Smith's writing, the characters are very shallow and underdeveloped. In this book that is especially true of Pat, the main character, whose function seems to be to ensure the story moves along without any thought to how strange it was that her feelings for her flat mate seemed to swing 180 degrees between chapters. Pat's attitude had to fit the story line.

Did not finish as I found it to be less than interesting and the format was clear that it was for serialisation.
