After his wife's sudden death, Nick Close has decided to leave London and return to Australia, hoping that distance will bring oblivion. But Tallong, his run-down childhood home, doesn't hold much comfort either: Thirty years ago, he and his best friend Tristram were lured into the woods at the edge of town. Tristram was murdered while Nick escaped.

As Nick drives the back road home from the airport, he is disturbed to find the woods still looming darkly in the distance. A strange sense of menace and foreboding overshadows his homecoming and Nick's uneasiness grows when another child is found murdered a few days later, his death almost identical to Tristram's.

Probing quietly and carefully into the shadows of the small community, Nick uncovers a long string of unexplained disappearances and brutal deaths, some over 100 years old - and every killing seems to lead back into the twisted maze of the woods. But there is one other connection. Drawn into the woods once again, Nick suddenly realises that it wasn't Tristram who was meant to die thirty years ago...

A good tale of supernatural suspense with a hint of magic that held my attention throughout. After being involved in an accident, that also indirectly causes his wife's death, Nick Close begins to see ghosts....ghosts who are acting out their moment of death - nice eh?

Returning to his native Australia, he heads back to his home town, the scene of the death of his childhood friend Tristam. When another child dies, Nick finds that the town has a history of children disappearing or dying & the answer would appear to be in the twisted maze of woods on the edge of town. Is Nick going to brave the woods & discover their secret? Of course he is.....

All-in-all a well-written & a very good read - I'll lookout for more by this author.Oh just more one thing...any arachnophobes out there, this might not be the book for you ;o)

Supernatural suspense and a hint of magic.
Brilliant - left by Plum-crazy on the OBCZ shelf on Todmorden Station, and grabbed by me straightaway!

Yes! Loved it, thank you - took it to Morocco and the spiders took my mind off the flight.
I thought Hanna was brilliant - and her transformation from scared little girl whose sister has been killed, to brave little trooper, to . . . (?) was marvellously done!
Lock up yer daughters, the Green Man lives in the woods!!
