THE NOVICE Book II of The Black Magician Trilogy In this second part of the trilogy Sonea begins her education at the guild's college like school. She has to endure a lot of bullying for her background and has to face even darker experiences. Because her old mentor Lord Rothen is no longer her mentor but High Lord Akkarin. Sonea is being blackmailed by Akkarin because she has witnessed him using black magic. I enjoyed this book as much as I enjoyed reading the first part. The story is again a bit slow. A friend who recommended the series to me also agrees with me that the whole setting and characters and creativity of the books are well written but Trudi Canavan keeps repeating herself. Like, we *know* that Sonea is discriminated for her background but this fact is being shown again and again. As a reader you kind of wait for the next big aspect of the book. My friend also said though that the third part has more action and gets the story really going.
