What’s a bookray and how does it work?

A bookray is when a book passes from person to person based on the list of members involved. Preferably a bookray book is never released into the wild.

To join this bookray (or any other bookray of mine) please private message me. I will be glad to add you to the list. New members are added all of the time so be sure to check the list of participants before you mail the book to the next in line just in case!

Once you are a bookray member you will receive the book from the person listed before you. When you receive the book please make a journal entry stating that you’ve received it. Then read it as soon as you can (no absolute hurry, just be reasonable please :o), and journal again with your thoughts. You’ll then need to private message the person on the list after you for their address. Mail the book by media mail (it’s cheaper!), and make release notes on the book only if you’d like to. Then sit back and watch the continuing journey!

The members are as follows:

mfa (Portugal)
Virgulina (Portugal)
Special-K (Australia)
welch (Iowa)
CurtAngel (Oklahoma) (ship only in the US)
gnissorckoob (ship only in the US)
fly46 (Ohio)
(ship only in US)
**NEED A MEMBER WHO CAN SHIP INT'L! Please contact me once you've finished the book and I will ship it if needed.
Sossap (Portugal)

an old flatmate of mine use to talk about the babel-fish all the time, and all i could think was "these crazy germans, going on about fishes and linguistics...". but she was so right, i just didn't know what i was missing.
the book is funny and inteligent, but deep at the same time, in as much as it seems to suggest that the only true answer to whatever the global question is is a good laugh. postmodern in its self-reflexive and ironic tone, but we can all live without too much literaty theory, can't we?
i just found my motto, by the way:

"the argument goes something like this: 'I refuse to prove that i exist,' says god, 'for proof denies faith, and without faith i am nothing.'
"but,' says man, 'the babel fish is a dead giveaway, isn't it? it could not have evolved by chance. it proves you exist, and so therefore, by your own arguments, you don't. qed."

thank you very much, pgsham. the book will be personally delivered to virgulina some time this week.

Just received this book from mfa's hands. I've heard so much about it that I can't wait to sink my eyes into it. :)

After hearing so much about this book I was expecting a lot more from it, maybe that was the problem. It started out interesting enough but I couldn't get myself past the first few hundred pages. Maybe I'd need to be a bigger fan of Science Fiction to enjoy it!

This just arrived today. I'll start it as soon as I've finished my current book and then send it on to welch.

I read this today and have PMd welch to make sure he is ready for me to send it along. I will definitely read the rest of the trilogy, I really enjoyed it. I don't know why it's taken me so long to get around to reading it.

I have the book. Gnissorckoob has PMed me to request I skip him. I used to always read references to this book on FIDONET and I always intended to read the book so I could be in on the joke, but its one of those things I never got around to. Hope to start shortly, unfortunately got another bookray book on the exact same day. I think I can juggle both, as the other book is a book that requires long concentrated reading, whereas this one seems lighter.

Another ray? *dies* Can't wait to get into this book. It'll bring back alot of memories of a friend of mine that I haven't seen in a while. (I miss Nathan so much!) He used to talk about this book all the time.

Can I get an update on the status of this book? Thanks a lot!

Horrible. Simply horrible.
I don't understand... I've the same type of thought process that lead Douglas Adams to write this book, and yet, I can't stand to read it?

13 May, 2004.
I am not going to sit here and explain myself.
Just know that this book was stalled with me for a number of reasons. Many were beyond my control. Some were not.
Whether or not I have read this book - and regardless of how badly I wanted to read it - it's going.
A period of my life is changing, and with it, out must go quite a bit.
I am moving to Nashville in a few weeks, save an apocalypse. Also sans apocalyps, I am thus doing a mass exodus of books.
Regardless of any feelings or ill will towards me, I assure you that I have kept this book safely in my care. It was in the company of other books that have kept it from being lonely. It was probably even read by my mother who, sans an act of God, will not come and journal the books no matter how many times I try to convince her to.
I still don't have any money, but I have just enough to put this in a box and ship it off to nyisutter, who has graciously offered to send these to whoever their next intended participant is.

Goodbye little book. Be well loved and have a good life.
